Smedian Has a 25% Acceptance Rate
I am sorry that it may not have worked for you at the time that you wrote this response. With that said, I want to clear up any misconceptions that may arise for readers of this article and your response.
Most things don’t work for most people in this world: college admissions, high paying job, being accepted into that fellowship, and being one of the fortunate ones who are accepted to contribute to a publication. That doesn’t mean that those systems don’t work; it just means that it has not yet worked out for you, and you may have to keep trying or try other methods of getting what you need.
As of October 2018, when I last ran the numbers, of the thousands of contribute requests sent by writers to Medium publications via Smedian.com, 25% of them have been accepted.
That’s a 25% acceptance rate for writers who request to contribute to Medium publications via Smedian! And many writers are accepted to more than one publication.
Smedian wouldn’t be recommended so much by so many people if it didn’t work. Like college admissions, Smedian definitely works.
Smedian gives you the means to connect with editors. As a publication editor and the creator of Smedian, I am confident in saying that it is by far the most effective way to connect with publications that are interested in accepting new contributors. Before Smedian, I receieved hundreds of contribute requests every month via email and was so overwhelmed that I didn’t read those emails. Also, those emails were berried among thousands of other emails. Smedian solved that problem. I have added over 2,000 writers to my various publications over the last two years via Smedian. Other top publications, some larger than mine, have added some more thousands of writers who applied via Smedian.
As of October 2018, of the thousands of contribute requests sent by writers to Medium publications via Smedian.com, 25% of them have been accepted. I must stress that, That’s an incredibly high acceptance rate, but not so high that everyone is getting in; only those who are best fit for the publications that they apply to are accepted.
A 25% acceptance rate is nothing to be overlooked. It means that you have a much higher chance of being accepted as a contributor to a (top) publication by applying via Smedian than you do by sending cold emails to editors. Smart Insights’s report on email marketing engagement and response rates shows that the Publishing industry has a 36.59% open rate as of April, 2018. So you start at a 37% chance of having your cold email opened. Then, the same report drops your chance of your profile link in that email being clicked to just 7%. From there, you have to be convincing enough to entice the editor to forgo his habit of neglecting contribute request cold emails due to being overwhelmed. That’s a steep hurdle to get over; I know because I’ve been on the receiving end of those cold emails that I left unopened to this day. All of this is why Smedian is popular among editors and writers.
But Carly Mae is correct in that a spray and pray approach is not your best bet. You have a better chance of making Smedian work for you if you take a targeted approach. I hope you will give it another shot.
